13th beach and The Island

We have been getting quite a lot of wind over the past week but none of it has eventuated to anything epic. Wind directions have always been not quite right...

The day at 13th ended up being super hard work, very very offshore wind so there was literally zero knots on the inside and 30knots out the back, with a solid swell. On the wave I was totally overpowered and couldn't turn at all. Ended up copping a few hilarious beatings...

that one hurt!

joel on a good one.

the kites were struggling in the super offshore wind

Yesterday had a good day at Phillip island. The wind was about 30 knots and the swell was nice with some over logo sets. Unfortunately it stayed dead cross shore all day instead of cross off as predicted, so the waves were a bit wind affected. Still really fun though! Best session I've had since the one really good day at Hookipa nearly two months ago. No photos unfortunately.

Looks like no swell and no wind for the upcoming long weekend, but planning on heading down the far west coast to scope out a few gnarly spots to see if they are sailable when the conditions align. Should be fun.

gnarly winter session

yesterday was very cold with a very gusty offshore wind and solid swell.
it was only supposed to be 3-4ft but by afternoon the swell had doubled in size and the bombies at 13th beach would been easily in the 6-8ft range. after a quick, frustrating session at 13th the swell was just out of control turning the waves into a big soupy mess. making it out the back without getting cleaned up by a set was a mission. to make it worse when i came in after a few waves i somehow ended up locking myself out of my car for an hour in the freezing cold... not much fun.

when i finally got back into the car we headed up the road to poo point at the western end of the beach where it is much more sheltered from the swell. the waves were a lot cleaner here but the bigger ones were mostly really fat walls with only with one good section before closing out heavily on the inside (that section claimed quite a bit of broken gear). it wasn't really epic but still got some good photos, thanks to phi, which made it all worthwhile.
